It’s a new year. If getting clear, glowing skin from head to toe isn’t one of your New Year’s resolutions, it should be! We’ve got the perfect night time routine that includes D.I.Y. face mask recipes and bath time additions to give your skin some TLC. Additionally, we’ve come up with a way for you to never run out of your favorite SLS and SLES-free soap again. SLAB Soap has got you covered to get your best skin yet in 2019.

Bath Time Additions For Your Skin

Start your new night time routine off right with a soak in the tub! Baths are good for your well-being. Plus, if you add an extra something to the water, they can be good for your skin, too, since baths help to open up your pores. A little Epsom salt or some essential oils can do wonders.

Better (and easier!) yet, add a bath bomb! You just need to make sure it contains only good-for-you ingredients, as your skin readily absorbs what’s in your bath. Our bath bombs are made with just a few simple base ingredients like baking soda, jojoba oil, argan oil, rosehip oil, and essential oils. These ingredients are great for your skin. For a night time soak, we’d suggest our Classic Lavender Bath Bomb, which, in addition to the great base ingredients, also contains lavender essential oil and Brazilian purple clay. Another bath bomb to use before bed is our Hibiscus Detox Bath Bomb. This bath bomb contains jojoba, argan, rosehip, and essential oils like Myrtle, and it’s also loaded with hibiscus petals and matcha green tea powder to soothe and detoxify your skin.

    D.I.Y. Clay Face Mask Recipe

Speaking of detoxifying your skin, while your enhanced bath water is working on pampering your body, you can be doing the same for your face by applying a face mask. Our favorite is a D.I.Y. bentonite clay mask that you can apply once a week. The clay is super absorbent, so it draws out gunk like dirt and oil from your open pores.

For this homemade face mask, you only need two ingredients: bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar or water. You may have heard about the benefits of ACV for skin in our post about psoriasis. Mixing bentonite clay with apple cider vinegar is best for those with normal or acne-prone skin since it creates a more clarifying mask. For those with dry or sensitive skin, we’d recommend using water the first time you try this mask.

To make the mask, gather your ingredients:

    • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of bentonite clay
    • 1/2 to 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or water

Mix the two together — though don’t use anything metal when mixing — it can result in clumpy clay. Apply the mask to your face and leave on for ten to fifteen minutes while soaking in the tub.

A few tips to note before you make this recipe: the mask pulsates after it’s applied, possibly leaving your skin red for roughly 30 minutes after using. You may not want to try it before a big event, just in case. It’s preferable to apply this mask during your night time routine right before bed. Also, you shouldn't wash the mask off with water in the sink or tub; you don’t want it going down your drain. The clay is so absorbent that the mask can get stuck in your drain and absorb all sorts of things, potentially causing plumbing issues. Just wash the mask off in a bowl and dump the water outside. You can also pull or peel the mask off and toss it into the trash.

    Soap Club Subscription

Finish off your night time routine with a good full body scrubbin’ to completely wash the day away. But, you should really ditch the chemically-laden soaps this year. Many soaps contain SLS — Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. Health officials are becoming increasingly aware of the harmful effects of this ingredient. In toothpaste, this chemical causes canker sores and constantly dry lips. In soap, SLS causes skin irritation and chronic conditions like eczema. You don’t want SLS anywhere near your skin, which absorbs 60% of what’s put on it. Instead, reach for a soap that is good for your skin.

SLAB Soap is free of SLS as well as its sister ingredient, SLES. Whether you’re just a few blocks away from our stores in Salem, Oregon, or you live across the country, you don’t ever have to find yourself without SLS and SLS-free soap before your night time routine when you get a SLAB Soap subscription.
